Sustainability, Green Careers & the Challenges for Professional Civil Engineers

Environmental sustainability is increasingly shaping the way infrastructure is planned, designed and delivered. For civil engineers, this means understanding not only technical requirements, but also the environmental challenges, emerging practices and new professional opportunities associated with a changing world.

Environmental Justice Forum (EJF), in collaboration with Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology, is organising a student outreach workshop on 7 September to introduce students to the evolving relationship between civil engineering and sustainability.

The session will explore green careers, emerging opportunities in sustainable infrastructure, and the challenges professional civil engineers face in responding to environmental and climate-related concerns. It will also encourage students to think about how their technical skills can contribute to more sustainable and environmentally responsible development.

The workshop aims to help students look beyond conventional career pathways and understand how sustainability is creating new roles, skills and areas of professional practice for the next generation of civil engineers.
